Yann Purple Brown

Yann Purple Brown is a floral wallpaper with an abstract drawing style. Leaf and flower shapes are simplified into flat forms rather than detailed botanical studies, and they sit across the wall in blue and green with further colors worked into the mix. The result is busy in a controlled way: the shapes are large enough to read from across a room, but the color range keeps any single element from taking over.
Surface and finish
The finish is matte, so the wall reflects no light back and the blues and greens hold the same depth in daylight and under lamps. The surface is smooth with no relief, which keeps the edges of the printed shapes crisp and makes the pattern the only thing happening on the wall. A smooth face also suits rooms where the wallpaper sits close to furniture or joinery, since there is no texture to interrupt the line where the two meet. These are premium quality wallpapers. If the drawn plant forms are what draws you in, the wider range of botanical designs covers the same ground in other scales, and the multicolor selection is worth comparing.
Style and rooms
The design sits between three approaches: the pared-back shapes of Scandinavian interiors, the color confidence of retro schemes, and the pattern-on-pattern layering of maximalist rooms. It works against plain painted walls, light wood, rattan and mid-century furniture shapes. Solid-colored upholstery picked from the blue or green in the print keeps the scheme tied together.
- Living rooms, including an accent wall or the area behind a sofa
- Bedrooms, full walls or a single headboard wall
- Kitchens and dining rooms
- Hallways, home offices and bathrooms
In a living room the pattern gives one wall something to do without needing artwork on top of it. In an office or a hallway, where wall space is often narrow and broken up by doors, the scattered shapes still read clearly on small stretches.
