Wael Gray
Also available in:
Waël Grey is an animal-patterned wallpaper worked in gray with accents in other shades. The gray carries most of the surface, so the multicolored details read as scattered points of interest rather than as a dense, all-over print. Seen from across a room the wall looks largely neutral; up close the individual motifs become clear.
Pattern and finish
The surface is matte, with no gloss, so the gray holds the same value in daylight and under lamps instead of shifting with the angle you stand at. The texture is smooth, which keeps the outlines of the motifs crisp and makes the wall easy to read next to flat-painted trim or plain doors. These are premium quality wallpapers. If the drawn motifs are what draws you here, the rest of the Animals designs are worth comparing, and the wider Gray range shows how the same base tone behaves with other patterns.
Style and rooms
The look is contemporary: clean motifs, a restrained ground and just enough color to keep the wall from going flat. It sits well with light wood, black metal fixtures and solid-color upholstery, and it gives framed prints or open shelving a background they can stand against without clashing. Because the gray stays dominant, you can hang the paper on all four walls or limit it to one.
- Living rooms, including the wall behind a sofa or a TV unit
- Bedrooms, hallways and home offices
- Kitchens and dining rooms
- Bathrooms, kids' rooms and nurseries
In a Living room the pattern works as the main visual element on an otherwise quiet wall. In a Nursery the animals give a child something to look at while the gray keeps the room from being tied to one age. A Hallway is another good fit, since the motifs hold attention in a space you mostly pass through.
