Renee Gray
Renée Grey is a striped wallpaper in gray. The bands run vertically and repeat at a steady interval, so the wall reads as ordered rather than decorative. Because the design stays within a single color family, the stripes register as changes in tone across the wall instead of as strong contrast, and the pattern holds together when seen from across a room.
Pattern and color
Gray is a practical base color for a striped design. It sits behind furniture without competing with it, and it shifts slightly as daylight moves through a room, which keeps a large expanse of striped wall covering from looking flat. Vertical lines pull the eye upward, so the design is useful where ceiling height is modest. Part of the Michalsky collection, it can be hung across all four walls or limited to one. These are premium quality wallpapers.
Style and rooms
The country style treatment suits interiors built on painted wood, natural textiles and simple furniture shapes. Gray works alongside white trim, oak, rattan and black metal fixtures, and it leaves room for a patterned rug or upholstery to carry the color in a scheme. It is equally at home in plainer, more contemporary rooms where the stripe supplies the only pattern.
- Living rooms, including behind a sofa
- Bedrooms, full walls or a single wall
- Hallways, where vertical stripes add height
- Home offices and dining rooms
In a living room the repeat gives shelving and framed pictures a regular background to sit against. A narrow hallway benefits from the same lines, which make a tight space feel taller rather than wider. In a bedroom the muted gray stays quiet behind a headboard, and in an office it keeps the wall behind a desk uncluttered.
