Maximilien Emerald Green
Also available in:
Maximilien Vert Emeraude is a plain wallpaper in a deep emerald green with a turquoise cast. There is no motif to line up and no repeat to plan around, so the color carries the wall on its own. The shade is saturated rather than pale, which makes it read as a full color decision rather than a background tint.
Color and pattern
A solid wall covering gives you an even field of color from baseboard to ceiling, and this one sits between green and blue depending on how much daylight the room gets. Against white trim the green looks sharper; next to wood or brass it warms up. Because there is nothing patterned competing for attention, framed art, shelving and mirrors stand out clearly in front of it. The retro character comes from the depth of the shade itself, the kind of strong color used on mid-century walls and furniture. These are premium quality wallpapers. If you are comparing shades, the rest of the turquoise selection is worth going through, and the broader solid range covers lighter and darker options.
Where it works
Dark plain colors do useful work in small rooms, where they make the corners recede instead of closing in. They also suit one wall in a larger space, used as a color block behind furniture.
- Living rooms, including behind a sofa or a TV unit
- Bedrooms, all four walls or one only
- Hallways, kitchens and dining rooms
- Home offices, bathrooms and nurseries
In a living room it pairs with velvet or linen upholstery in cream, rust or mustard, and with pale wood it keeps the scheme from looking flat. A hallway is a good place for a color this strong, since you pass through rather than sit in it, and the green gives a plain run of wall something to say.
