Jerome Black
Jérôme Black is a plain wallpaper in a single black shade, printed with a fine fabric texture. There is no motif to follow and no repeat to line up visually, so the wall reads as one continuous field of color with a faint woven grain across it. Seen from across a room it looks like an even dark surface; up close the cloth-like structure becomes visible.
Surface and color
The finish is matte, which matters more with black than with lighter shades: there is no gloss to throw back window light or lamps, so the wall stays a consistent dark tone instead of showing bright patches. The surface itself is smooth to the touch, with the fabric effect carried in the print rather than in relief. That makes it straightforward to wipe down and easy to fit flush against trim, switches and door frames. These are premium quality wallpapers. If the flat, even surface is what appeals, the rest of the smooth wallpapers are worth comparing, and other fabric-texture designs cover the same idea in different shades.
Style and rooms
The look is contemporary and minimal. A solid black ground gives strong contrast to pale wood, white paint, brass fittings and glass, and it makes framed artwork, shelving and plants stand out sharply. Used on all four walls it closes a room in; on one wall it works as a backdrop that anchors the furniture in front of it.
- Living rooms, including behind a sofa or around a TV unit
- Bedrooms, often on the headboard wall
- Kitchens and dining rooms
- Home offices and studies
In a dining room the dark ground suits evening lighting and keeps the focus on the table. In a workspace it reduces glare behind a screen and keeps the background plain.
