Astrid Grey Black
Also available in:
Astrid Grey Black is a floral wallpaper that sets botanical shapes in grey against a black ground. Blooms and leaves are drawn in outline and shading rather than flat color, so the pattern keeps its detail up close and reads as a dark, evenly filled surface from across the room. Because both shades sit at the deep end of the scale, the design holds together as one tone from a distance instead of breaking into separate spots of light and dark.
Pattern and color
The flowers and foliage repeat across the width, with stems and leaf forms filling the space between the larger blooms. There is no bright accent color, which makes it easier to combine than a floral with a strong contrast note. If you are drawn to this kind of drawing, the wider floral collection covers everything from small sprigs to large-scale blooms, and the full range of patterned papers is worth browsing alongside it. These are premium quality wallpapers.
Style and rooms
The look is vintage, closer to an old printed textile than to a contemporary graphic, and it suits rooms built on darker walls, wood furniture and warm metals. A dark floral like this works well on a single wall, where it gives depth without closing the whole room in. Paired with lighter upholstery or pale paint on the remaining walls, the contrast keeps the pattern legible. It belongs to the Michalsky range, and it also fits maximalist schemes that layer pattern with pattern.
- Living rooms, including the wall behind a sofa
- Bedrooms, whole room or one wall
- Hallways, dining rooms and kitchens
- Home offices, bathrooms and nurseries
In a dining room the dark ground works with evening light and candles, and in a hallway it gives a short stretch of wall something to look at. In a home office it makes a quiet backdrop for shelving and framed prints.
