Amara Anthracite
Amara Anthracite is a wallpaper with a concrete look in a deep gray. The design reproduces the surface of poured concrete, with uneven shading, faint clouding and the small marks left by formwork, so the wall reads as one continuous cast surface rather than a repeating motif. Because the tone shifts slightly from patch to patch, the pattern joins are hard to pick out once the wall is hung.
Color and pattern
Anthracite sits at the dark end of gray, closer to charcoal than to stone, and it holds its depth even in rooms that get plenty of daylight. That darkness is the main thing to plan around: it absorbs light rather than bouncing it back, which makes a room feel more contained and gives pale furniture, brass fittings and light wood a clear outline against it. Paired with white trim it stays graphic; paired with warm textiles it reads softer. The full range of concrete designs covers lighter and warmer takes on the same idea, and other shades in the anthracite family work along similar lines. These are premium quality wallpapers.
Where it works
An industrial or modern scheme is the obvious home for this one, though it also does quiet background duty in plainer rooms. It suits open-plan spaces where one darker surface helps mark off a zone, and it handles stairwells and corridors well, since those areas are rarely lit enough for a pale wall to pay off anyway.
- A single accent wall in the living room
- Bedrooms, behind the bed or across the whole room
- Kitchens and dining rooms
- Hallways, stairwells and home offices
In a living room it gives shelving, framed prints and a television a dark ground to sit against, which cuts down on visual clutter. In a office the flat gray keeps the field of view calm during long stretches at a desk, and in a bedroom it makes the wall behind the headboard the anchor of the room without adding any pattern to look at.
